Achilles is young, radiant, and almost divine in appearance. Here is how the "swift-footed" hero is described in the epic: 1. The "golden-haired" warrior Achilles' most distinctive feature is his hair. In the Iliad, he is often referred to as "blond" or "golden-haired." Long hair: He kept his hair long as a vow to the river god Sperche, but during the Trojan War he cut it off as a sign of grief for his best friend Patroclus. Face: He is described as having extremely beautiful, almost gentle features for a warrior, but with a "fiery" gaze that struck terror into his enemies. 2. Athleticism and speed Achilles was not massive like Ajax, but rather tall, slender, and perfectly proportioned. "Swift-footed": His epithet is not accidental. He was the fastest runner among all mortals. His legs were a symbol of his power – light and elusive. The Voice: He had a deafening, metallic voice. When he shouted three times before the walls of Troy, after the death of Patroclus, the Trojans panicked so much that 12 of them died in the stampede. 3. Magical Weapons Achilles' appearance changed dramatically when he put on the armor forged by the fire god Hephaestus: The Shield of Achilles: His most famous "ornament". A huge, five-layered shield, on which the entire world was depicted – the sky, the sea, cities in peace and war, farmers and festivities. The Radiance: When Achilles went out onto the battlefield in his new golden armor, he shone like the sun or like the "devastating star Sirius". The light from his helmet could be seen from afar. Peleus' Spear: He carried a huge spear made of heavy ash wood that no other Greek could even lift.
